38. From self-taught home chef to TV cooking show host with Steve Gatlin

Steve Gatlin is the host of "Steve Cook's Stuff" on Eat This TV, a streaming platform with millions of viewers.  Despite having no formal culinary training, Steve’s passion for food developed through his military service and personal experiences, leading to private catering during the COVID-19 pandemic. His journey from posting a picture of food, to cooking for a dinner event, to answering a Facebook ad, to hosting a TV cooking show is, well, amazing to say the least. You really have to hear for yourself.

Steve explained the initial steps he took, including obtaining a food handlers permit and creating a marketing strategy through social media. He highlighted the importance of word-of-mouth and online presence in growing his business. He also shared his experience filming a pilot episode for the EatThis.tv network which he viewed as a low-risk opportunity to enhance his professional video content. As fate would have it, the show took off.

The conversation covered Steve's experiences with networking and imposter syndrome, along with his approach to integrating personal stories into his cooking. He emphasized the importance of networking and being open to opportunities.

Steve is currently preparing for filming of Season 2 of "Steve Cook's Stuff" in the Bay Area in late September/early October.
